Who we are

Banish Me is run by Wax and Press. Email us at letters@banishme.com — we'll send our postal address on request.

We decide how your personal information is used, which makes us its controller under UK data protection law.

What we collect and why

• When you buy here: your email address, the delivery name and address, and what you ordered. We use them to make and post your letter and to email your letter-writing link.
• Your letter: the recipient's name, your words and the sign-off. We use them only to print your letter. If it's posted to someone else, we use their name and address only to send it.
• If you bought on Etsy: your Etsy order number, and the name, delivery address and email that Etsy shares with us or that you send us.
• Payment: Stripe takes your payment. We see whether it succeeded, never your card details.
• Keeping the site safe: your IP address is held briefly in memory to stop abuse, such as someone guessing letter codes, and isn't stored by us. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs for security.

Our legal basis

We use your details to carry out our contract with you, to meet our legal duty to keep sales records, and — for keeping the site secure and preventing fraud — in our legitimate interests.

Who we share it with

Only the services that make the shop work, and only what each one needs:

• Stripe processes payments and runs its own fraud checks (see Stripe's privacy policy).
• Microsoft Azure hosts the site and stores orders, in its UK South region.
• Resend sends our emails to you.
• Etsy, for orders placed there.
• Royal Mail carries the envelope with the delivery address on it.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, including in the US. Where they do, it's protected by the safeguards UK law requires. We never sell your information or use it for marketing, and we only email you about your order.

Cookies

We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, and nothing on this site tracks you. The only cookie we set is a sign-in cookie for the shop's own admin pages, which customers never receive. Stripe's payment page sets its own cookies to prevent fraud.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for as long as tax law requires us to keep sales records — up to six years. Your letter's words and the delivery address are stored with the order. Once your letter has been posted, you can ask us to delete them and we will, unless we still need them to sort out a problem with that order.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict or stop using it, or ask for it in a portable form. Email letters@banishme.com and we'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page. Buying from us is covered by our terms of sale.
